In a rural location of the pretty Charente region of France just 7 kms drive to the town of Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard with a supermarket, several bakeries, bank, numerous shops, a couple of bars and restaurants.

We recommend the local restaurant which offers great food and just 1 mile away, within walking distance of Le Chalet a leisurely stroll for lunch or evening meal.

The Charente area has lots of activities including kayaking, canoeing, tree top adventures, labyrinth, Chateaux and gardens to explore, river beaches, walks and cycle routes, horse riding and wine tasting.

Things to do:

There are plenty of sites and attractions within a reasonable driving distance from Le Chalet:

You will find a market every Monday in the town of Chalais, during the summer months the market takes over the streets of the town, or take a tour of the château.

Angouleme the capital of the Charente region is a 30 min drive or a train from Montmoreau takes just 17minutes. You will find plenty to see including churches, museums, the old town with its narrow streets and restaurants plus a shopping centre. Angouleme is on the Charente river where you can hire canoes/kayaks.

The Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche lake, 26 hectares,  just a few kilometers from the town centre with a sandy beach where you can go swimming, hire a small boat or go sailing or windsurfing. The beautiful city of Bordeaux with its many churches, historic buildings, gardens along the quay side and not forgetting the many cafes, restaurants and the largest shopping street in Europe where you can find top brand stores as well as smaller boutique shops.  To drive is 1hr 20mins but you can also get a train from Montmoreau station which is 1hr 13mins travel time.

The city of Cognac, only 45 mins drive, world famous for it’s distilleries. Tour one of the famous distilleries and experience the ritual of the tasting room.
